Cryptocurrencies
I think Solana/Tezos/NEAR/AVAX/Dfinity are interesting distributed consensus systems for transacting assets and running code (smart contracts). I find privacy coins/contracts like (Monero/SRCT/IronFish) to be most interesting use cases of crypto right now. Especially considering the amount of power governments have to cut you fully from traditional banking system. There are no other constitutional rights in substance without freedom to transact.
It's unfortunate that a lot of people/projects use these distributed ledgers as ponzi schemes or wash trading or still use super wasteful consensus systems (like Bitcoin). Some argue that blockchains are useless tech all together. Worst of all, many treat crypto as a way to purely make money with no regulation and that poisons interaction & discourse all around as they try to sell you on the value of often worthless coins and generally be annoying.
I hold few coins only as a way to build unique apps, not for investment purposes (I think there are better investments to be made that help move us to a better future). I don't know what the world, that at least partly, starts to rely on passing state in decentralized way without any reversal of transactions. It seems hard to imagine how this can work well. But I am optimistic. I do think having powerful open source protocols is very powerful compared to the current status quo of opaque systems that only few humans have control of.
From my research, FTX seemed to be the cheapest way to trade coins for FIAT but I maybe wrong. Ideally everyone moves to completely P2P marketplaces where fees are minimal and no one can block your ability to transact.
I do hope someone builds a true decentralized ramp up to a true privacy coin like Monero. So you can go from FIAT to private anonymous transactions at any time and escape the traditional financial systems that use your money to wage war or do other silly things like is the case with Russia/China and to a lesser extent most other countries. The way I see it happening now is we have FIAT to Solana already via traditional marketplaces. Then you can have smart DEX that swaps Solana for Monero. You transact privately there and swap back to Solana then to FIAT whenever you need to do something that is not yet ready for this brave new world. I do hope and think it would be possible to have private transactions for citizens yet still enforce some kind of donations to the public so governments can function. Just things should be transparent so the money is traced publicly as to what it gets spent on whether its education / better cities / roads / etc.
Dune Analytics is great at analyzing public blockchain data.

- sai - Simple single-collateral stablecoin that is dependent on a trusted oracle address and has a kill-switch.
Notesâ
- The thing we call money is just an information system for labor allocation. What actually matters is making goods & providing services. We should look at currencies from an information theory standpoint. Whichever has least error & latency will win.
- China launches digital yuan. Adopted by nations tired of SWIFT abuse. Suddenly US canât impose sanctions. Shift from apathy to panic, like COVID. But DC canât build. So they deputize private USD stablecoins. And that is how a digital dollar may be born.
- Rich people buy tons very low and wait till it rises high sell all for tons of profit...Then retail investors get scared and sell there coins making it drop way further than what the rich guys took profit...Next they buy tons again at a even cheaper price and get a lot more coins for there money...Rises high again then Repeat......Vicious cycle but this is the little guys opportunity to get a leg up. Why we have to hold for years of cycles like this and then we lil guys come out on top.
- Message to US and Western Policymakers on how to think about China's approach to crypto and blockchain. China opposes the Western system of values built on openness, transparency, privacy, free market competition and so forth.
- Chains that charge users more than 2-4x the bandwidth it takes to replicate a tx will fail.
- Use a hardware wallet.
- One of the most obvious flaws in using blockchains for anything involving regular human beings is one I've not seen much discussion of: Regular human beings cannot protect their passwords, credentials or private keys. They just can't. The idea of encouraging anyone who doesn't have a deep understanding of personal information security to attach a sizable portion of their net worth to an irreversible "code is law" distributed system is utterly appalling.
- Mercury Bank is great for dealing with DeFi, crypto, or NFTs
- Even if tokens are securities, they are securities that fix everything the SEC has ruined in the public markets: 1. Networks launch before all value creation is captured by VCs. 2. Democratic ownership and user ownership and contributor ownership. 3. Fixes problems with stock options.
- One crypto application I'm fully convinced by is decentralized money: Money the government can't touch.
- Many crypto projects are thinly disguised securities sales, designed to skirt around regulation.
- No one company or person should have unilateral control over our social and financial infrastructure on the internet. Crypto provides a viable technical path to actually achieve that in practice.
- Crypto"currencies" aren't currencies for very obvious reasons. They economics are deflationary, the transaction throughput doesn't scale, are too volatile to conduct commerce in and there's no mechanism for the volatility to ever subside.
- The U.S. is not âbehind China on crypto.â CBDCs are not crypto â theyâre a government surveillance tool. Crypto creates freedom, it doesnât destroy it.
- Always use a cold wallet to store your valuables. Never give out verification codes to anyone. Protect your information, don't give out your phone number or your personal email. Caller information is easy to spoof. Companies like Apple will never call you.
- Itâs difficult for me to see a future where poorly regulated technology with built-in perverse financial incentives will magically result in fairer, more accessible systems.
- Focus on: Public goods funding. Social recovery / multisig wallets. Reputation systems (could help a lot to fight scams!). PoS (solves energy issues). Scaling (reduces fees, makes non-financial apps viable).
